Overview

The purpose of this workshop is to discuss, compare, and share information regarding select sessions on research trends for I-O psychologists and HR practitioners from the 32nd annual conference for the Society of Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP), Orlando, FL.  Dr. Sarah Carr Evans will facilitate a session in which presenters will share highlights from presentations given at SIOP, and discuss implications for teaching and/or practice. The format will be an informal discussion with audience participation encouraged throughout. Handouts will be provided as appropriate in advance of the workshop.

Learning Objectives

1. Describe and compare select conference sessions, highlighting current research efforts and advancements in the field of I-O Psychology and related HR practices.

2. Discuss and explain trends in I-O Psychology that are relevant to faculty members and practitioners on HR development including employee engagement, leadership, and workforce planning.

3. Discuss and critique immediate and longer-term implications of presented research/trends on teaching and practice, including the application of these findings.

Statement regarding intended audience: This session is intended for a general audience at a post-graduate level; no specific content knowledge is required.

Presenter Biography

Dr. Sarah Carr Evans is a principal consultant at Leadership Insights Consulting, LLC, providing executive assessment, coaching, leadership development, and succession planning. She has partnered with numerous Fortune 500, private, and nonprofit organizations to design, implement, optimize, and measure the impact of human capital initiatives that extend the full breadth of the leadership life cycle from selection to succession. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from The University of Georgia, Dr. Evans earned a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology in 1997 and returned for master’s and doctorate degrees in industrial/organizational psychology in 2002. After completing her education, Dr. Evans served as a consultant, executive coach, and onboarding expert to leaders, C-suite executives, and their boards of directors before establishing her own consultancy practice in 2015. Through this work she has created and delivered leadership and board development programs, conducted “bench strength” analyses, and provided critical recommendations regarding organizational design and succession planning. Additionally, Dr. Evans serves as a senior consultant with NuBrick Partners, which supports executive search and provides talent and leadership solutions to a variety of industries including healthcare and insurance. She is also a member of the Society for Industrial/ Organizational Psychology.
